Safe, Solid, and Looking New Again

A deck doesn’t have to be torn out and rebuilt just because a few boards are soft or the finish has worn off. Most decks can be brought back, structurally and visually, with targeted repairs instead of a full rebuild.

We inspect the structure first, then repair what needs it: board replacement, railing fixes, structural reinforcement, and a refinish that protects the wood for years, not just one season.

Structural Repairs

Board replacement, railing repair, and structural fixes that make sure the deck is actually safe to use, not just presentable.

Refinishing

Staining and sealing that protects the wood and brings back the color and finish that sun and weather stripped away.

Why Lancaster Homeowners Choose Us

Structure Checked First

Every deck gets inspected for structural issues before any cosmetic work starts: safety before appearance.

Repair Over Replace

When the structure allows it, targeted repairs save the cost of a full deck rebuild.

Finish That Lasts

Proper staining and sealing that protects against Ohio’s sun, rain, and freeze-thaw cycles.

The Project

A Simple Repair That Turned Into a Full Replacement

The homeowner called us about replacing a few damaged deck boards. Once we inspected the deck and opened it up, it was clear the problem went a lot deeper than the surface. The joists had significant rot, and swapping out a handful of boards wasn’t going to be a real long-term fix.

So we tore out the existing structure and built the homeowner a completely new 34′ x 24′ deck.

The Problem

Rotted Deck Boards & Joists

The original request was straightforward: replace a few boards that had worn out over time. But once the decking was inspected, the condition of the framing underneath showed itself. Several areas of the framing and joists were badly rotted.

New boards on top of that would have just been covering up compromised framing. Instead, the job became a complete deck replacement, built from the framing up.

The Fix

Complete Deck Removal & Replacement

First step was taking the old deck out. The old decking and rotted framing came off to expose what was underneath, and once the area was fully cleared we prepped it for the new build.

The new deck measures roughly 34 feet by 24 feet: a big, usable outdoor living space with new framing, new joists, and new decking from the ground up.

Look Beyond the Damaged Boards

This job is a good example of why homeowners should look past the deck boards when they’re thinking about repairs. Rot can spread into the joists, beams, ledger board, and the rest of the framing. What looks like a small deck repair can turn up structural issues that call for a full replacement.

Dealing with soft, cracked, or rotting deck boards? Have the framing underneath inspected before you decide between a repair and a full deck replacement.

Deck Repair & Replacement FAQs

A few soft boards or loose railings are usually a repair. Rot in the joists or support posts, or damage spread across most of the deck, usually means a full rebuild makes more sense.

Yes, if the framing underneath is structurally sound. But if the joists or framing are rotted, replacing only the decking doesn’t fix the actual problem.

Replacing boards is far cheaper than a full rebuild, but if the framing underneath is compromised, board replacement alone won’t fix the problem.

Both. Deck projects range from individual board replacement and deck repairs to complete deck rebuilds and new deck construction. The right fix depends on the condition of the existing structure.
