Screened Porch Repair in Lancaster, Ohio
Replacing Rotted Wood Strips with 1 1/4″ PVC
This Lancaster screened porch had wood strips holding the screen panels in place, and years of weather had started to rot them out. We pulled the old wood and replaced it with 1 1/4″ PVC strips that won’t rot, warp, or need repainting.
Wood Strips That Had Run Their Course
This Lancaster homeowner’s screened porch was built with wood strips holding the screen panels in place around the frame. Years of Ohio weather had started to rot the wood out, leaving gaps and loose edges along the screens.
We pulled the old wood strips, cut new 1 1/4″ PVC strips to length on site, and reinstalled them around the full porch, a material that won’t rot, swell, or need repainting down the road.
To finish the job off, we also added landscaping timber and river rock around the base of the porch, cleans up the edge, keeps mulch and dirt off the new PVC, and gives the whole thing a finished look from the ground up.

Wood Strips Were Rotting Out
The screen panels on this Lancaster porch were held in place by wood strips, and years of weather had started to rot them out, leaving gaps and loose screen edges around the frame.
1 1/4″ PVC, Strip by Strip
We pulled the old wood strips, cut new 1 1/4″ PVC strips to length on site, and reinstalled them around the full porch. PVC won’t rot, swell, or need repainting the way wood does.
A Small Fix That Saves a Full Rescreen
Wood strips are usually the first thing to go on a screened porch, once they rot, the screen loses its grip and the panels start to sag. Catching it early with PVC means you’re not paying to rescreen the whole porch later.

Screen Porch Repair FAQs
PVC won’t rot, swell, or need repainting the way wood does, once it’s in, it’s a one-and-done fix instead of something you’ll replace again in a few years.
Both, if the strips are rotted but the screen itself is still good, we can usually just replace the strips. If the screen’s torn or sagging too, we’ll rescreen those panels while we’re at it.
Both, if you want it. On this job we added landscaping timber and river rock around the base once the strip repair was done, so the porch had a clean, finished edge instead of bare dirt or mulch right up against the new PVC.
No, PVC trim comes pre-finished white and doesn’t need painting, though it can be painted if you want a different color.
Most porches can be done in a day or two, depending on the size and condition of the existing framing.
