Custom Bistro Lighting Installation for a New Concrete Patio

A new concrete patio gives you a great place to spend time outdoors, but once the sun goes down, the right lighting changes how the whole space feels. Instead of temporary posts, we built this homeowner a custom bistro lighting system with permanent light poles.

The Project

Permanent Bistro Lighting Built for a New Patio

A homeowner in Lancaster, Ohio reached out looking for a way to add warm, ambient lighting over their new concrete patio. Rather than just hanging string lights off the house or using temporary posts, we designed and installed a custom patio bistro lighting system with permanent light poles.

The result is a clean, durable lighting setup that lights up the patio in the evening.

Step One

Measuring the Patio & Planning the Lighting

First we figured out how much lighting it would take to properly cover the patio. We measured the space for the right bistro light string length and planned the layout for consistent coverage without a lot of extra slack.

We also picked the best spots for two freestanding light poles, keeping them outside the main patio area so the layout is functional and looks clean.

Step Two

Installing Permanent Light Pole Foundations

Both pole locations were marked and dug approximately 24 inches deep. A Sonotube concrete form went into each hole and was filled with concrete to give the poles a solid foundation.

Anchor bolts were set in the top of each footing as a secure connection point for the pole bases. That’s a lot more stable than driving a lightweight post into the ground.

At a Glance

Each pole got a square steel base welded to the bottom so it bolts right down to the anchor bolts in the footing. A cap on top keeps water out of the tubing and extends the life of the posts.

The Lights

Anchoring the Bistro Lights

With the poles set, we anchored additional mounting points to the house. The patio bistro lights were then strung between the house and the two freestanding poles, creating a suspended layout with even light across the whole outdoor entertaining area.

The Result

Ambient Outdoor Lighting for Evening Use

The homeowner now has warm, inviting ambient lighting that lets them use the patio well after sunset. Custom poles, permanent footings, and professionally installed string lights give it a finished look that fits the new patio, a dedicated lighting system instead of a temporary fix.

Light Your Space Without Relying on Existing Structures

Outdoor string lights are a simple way to transform a patio, deck, pergola, or outdoor entertaining area. On bigger spaces, though, the challenge is usually finding a way to hold the lights up without relying on what’s already there. Custom bistro light poles solve that and let you put the lighting exactly where you need it.

This Lancaster patio lighting project included custom metal fabrication, concrete footings, anchor bolts, exterior paint, house-mounted attachment points, and complete bistro light installation.
